Omar Barghouti: Boycott, Divestment & SanctionsOmar Barghouti, a Palestinian intellectual and the co-founder of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) Movement, spoke at Portland State University on February 24, 2015 as part of a panel connecting the situation of Israel/Palestine to the struggle for indigenous peoples in North America. As a Palestinian, Barghouti's views on treatment as "others", "savages," and colonized people are very clear. He speaks with a decisive energy about how to sustain a resistance.The panel of which he was part of, featured a First Nation speaker from British Columbia, Canada a founder of Jewish Voice for Peace and a Native American professor from North Dakota, speaking a about the idea of the "savage."
