Ninth Busiversary (1999-2000)Flying Focus producers who worked on programs made between December 1999 and November 2000 sat down on the nine-year anniversary of the Flying Focus Video Bus to look back at their work. Clips on this show include parts of 24 half- hour programs made over the year as well as three longer "Speakers and Events" shows.Producer Dan Handelman introduces six programs about the devastation caused by U.S. policy in Iraq, including one featuring footage returned to him by U.S. Customs after a two-year legal struggle; four featuring workshops from a national conference on Iraq sanctions; and one with radical ex-priest Philip Berrigan speaking on world peace. Barb Greene talks about two programs she made promoting equality for sexual minorities in the face of a state-wide ballot measure aiming to take away rights; two others on global economics; and one on natural birthing. Barb also produced a show of a poetry reading by homeless authors and another with writer Carol Adams discussing "The Sexual Politics of Meat." New producer Daniel Webb shows clips of Helen Prejean, the famous anti-death penalty advocate, and a panel discussion on the situation caused by the Chinese occupation of Tibet. Kyle Yamada shares his two documentaries on the anti-WTO protest in Seattle and the Democratic Convention in Los Angeles, as well as a fund-raising benefit put on for a local homeless youth program. Jan Haaken co-produced a show on the women of Sierra Leone featuring footage she took with her son Caleb. Also featured are programs on mergers and psychiatric drug profits, produced by Sharon Gail, and the privatization of prisons, introduced by new volunteer Jason Raymond. Watching this one hour tape will give you a sense of the breadth and depth of what kinds of topics Flying Focus covers.
