Like what you see? Hiroshima-Nagasaki-Hanford: A Tragic Connection 2013These shows (VB #91.06&07) feature speakers, music and information from the 2013 Hiroshima Day commemoration in Portland. That event focused in part on how plutonium for the atomic bomb dropped on Nagasaki in 1945 was manufactured at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation in Richland, WA, not far from Portland. The event was held at the Japanese American Historical Plaza in Portland's Waterfront Park and co- coordinated with many local peace, social justice, and Japanese American groups.Part 1 features Portland Taiko, Oregon Physicians for Social Responsibility's John Pearson (remembering Charlie Grossman), Satori Men's Chorus, and Kayla Godowa-Tufti of the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs. Part 2 has music from Portland Taiko and the Satori Chorus, adding an invocation by Reverent Myosho Obata of the Nichiren Buddhist Temple, Twyla Malchow-Hay (winner of PSR's 2013 Del Greenfield Peace Writing Scholarship), and Chuck Johnson of the Oregon/Washington PSR Joint Nuclear Power Task Force.
