The Deliberate Documentarian: Making "The Reluctant Radical" (clips) In this show we interviewed Lindsey Grayzel, a Portland area filmmaker who created "The Reluctant Radical." Her movie follows Ken Ward, an activist so concerned about climate change that he engaged in a variety of direct actions, from gas station protests to shutting off a valve that is part of a North American oil pipeline. Lindsey herself was arrested by police even though she was recording that latter action from outside of a fence. She had her video confiscated and it took a year and a half to get it back. She talks about her experiences making the movie and what happened when the police stepped in. Part of this show includes clips of Lindsey from the early 2000s when she volunteered with Flying Focus. We are very pleased that she agreed to let us use clips from her documentary to make this show. Interviewing Lindsey is FFVC producer Dan Handelman.

Oil Spill Update (Gulf of Mexico 2011) Antonia Juhasz, author of "Black Tide" spoke at Powell's Books in Portland, OR in April, 2011 to paint a picture of the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico which caused extensive damage to the environment. Juhasz gives stern warnings to companies which would choose profits over life.

Jeff Ellis, a capital defense attorney, talks in this clip about how race, poverty and mental illness impact decisions that juries make whether someone should be sentenced to death. This is a discussion thats been taking place on a national level as more and more states are looking at the inequalities inherent in the death penalty.
